30.1.06 || a day in the life - illustrated
ah, what a great day. first off, did some art for school and enjoyed it, which took away a bit of the guilt factor.

then was drawn outdoors on a wheel by the glorious sunshine, found a group of the juggling club folks in the park and joined them. 'tis great fun, juggling into the sunset.

finally, went back to find harrison doing his hobo business around my street. we had a productive what is session (info on that later) and played a very stimulating family board game.

a nice, fullsome sunday, topped off by the news that i'm going to the glasgow juggling convention. many glances in friday's direction.

27.1.06 || pine finish!
now that i'm feeling better, have a look at the wonders on offer in the minwax wood finish selection. my favourites are 221, cause it's pine, and 233. none of those fake, garish colours for me. so, what would YOU choose for YOUR item of wooden furniture?

the spiffingness of life
it's a horrible feeling when exams go on until the end of school. the day seems empty, because i've had neither a holiday nor a full school day with all the events and excitement that brings. it's worsened when the last hours of daylight are spent in a café. oh well, that's the last of that kind of day. back to the school régime.

i am justified in continuing to live because i put e-accutes where they're needed. it even makes up for posting needlessly.

21.1.06 || earth googling

a happy sight for anyone from the legion walks.

the setting for the camping trip seems to have been near an unsettling omen.

in other news, the english exam is over with, so i can more-or-less relax. went to see a mostly bullshit exhibition of that fine cca quality. worked on 'what is', an album which i'm supposed to have started releasing on the internet. going to a daunting party where i'll know one of the thirty or so people expected there. so, yeah, it's all good.

rare and dangerous: the yorkshireman!

a collaborative effort. helen and i in maths.

the yorkshireman can be found in 30 of the 67 states of america, and sometimes even in yorkshire. he has an advanced respiratory system which calls for enlarged nostrils and lungs, and elongated feet on the end of useless legs used for holding beer. that huge pipe may look like an ego thing, but it is actually crucial to the balance of this ungainly creature. his neck muscles having been replaced by extra lung space, he consumes mercury deposits in order to allow his armpits to secrete gaseous wing mirrors. he can be seen charging off through the wetlands, his only means of braking a flock of sparrows dragging his beard backwards. keen cyclists covet the hulking shoulderblades as perfect terrain to train for the tour de france.

12.1.06 || another music review. tune out at will.
i have realised now that king crimson is definitely my favourite band. for a start, as robert fripp himself describes it, it's more of a concept than a band. it may sound pretentious, but - with personnel turmoil out of which emerges only fripp and a consistent feel continued through its many eras, deftly traversing the treachery of the eighties right through to the present day - i would say it is quite true.

the line-ups appearing throughout its history have always made for a unique sound on their albums. instrumentation has ranged from every popular reed instrument to the tinkling piano as conjured beneath keith tippet's cascading fingers, the violin grandmastery of improvisational genius david cross, and the bewildering assortment of percussion and miscelany toyed with by madman jamie muir. the latter two have made particularly fantastic contributions, on the peerless larks' tongues in aspic.

however, a surprisngly important factor, i just discovered, is that they never look down their noses. in the musical sense, that is. rising to heights of jazz, avant-garde and cacophony, they still nurture the more simplistic side. fearlessly they dip into simple harmonies, plain 4/4 structures, lone guitar, and even power chord thrashing. and just about all of it works. it's this span of all aspects of their genre that makes them truly respectable, and i'm sure a joy to work with.

that settled, a spree is in order to overload myself with some kc. thank you, serendipitously-obtained £40 cheque!

11.1.06 || green is the new blue
i have a box in my room. it is green. i put things in it. they are green.

here are pictures. guess what colour they are? well, quite a lot of colours, but do not be disheartened: predominantly green.

ps. yes, i have decided what to do with this blog. what i was doing from the start. but i'll try to enforce a one week gap maximum between posts.

pps. the left diagonal things have been fucked, it seems. i'll reload them when i can find them.

8.1.06 || fate
the question of fate is being explored today. that of this blog. sorry to disappoint, anyone expecting great insights into fate.

lately, i've been reserving it for essay-class thoughts, which are born rarely in my uninspired mind, and quality links. i should change my attitude to allow for regular blogging. maybe i'll start anew with a livejournal. any thoughts?
